Nevada is the only state in the United States where some form of prostitution is legal. Even where it is legal it is only allowed in regulated brothels; street prostitution is illegal in Nevada as in the rest of the country. In Missouri, any type of prostitution is against the law and will be aggressively prosecuted and the offender, punished.

Penalties for Prostitution in Missouri

If you were charged with prostitution, you’re faced with a Class B misdemeanor which can mean jail time. In fact, a Class B misdemeanor can include jail time of six months as well as a $1000 fine.

Penalties for Solicitation in Missouri

Patronizing prostitution, or giving something of value to another person, with the understanding that person will engage in sexual conduct, is also a Class B misdemeanor. However, if the individual solicited was between fourteen and eighteen years old, the crime becomes a felony. If the individual was fourteen years old or younger, you face Class D felony charges and punishment which includes prison time up to seven years and fines up to $10,000. In addition to a patronizing prostitution charge, you may also face statutory rape charges depending on the age of the victim. Statutory rape can either be in the first or second degree, however, both are felony charges.

Promoting prostitution is the act of compelling a person to enter into, or remain in, prostitution. The most serious of the prostitution crimes, promoting prostitution in the first degree is punishable as a Class B felony, or five to fifteen years in prison.

You Can be Charged with Prostitution Through an Undercover Police Officer

You can be arrested and charged with prostitution or patronizing prostitution through an undercover police officer in what is called a “sting operation.” Once the officer has probable cause, he or she will then make an arrest and you can be charged.
