After returning from Haiti, Mickey began his studies at Hillsborough Community College before continuing at the University of South Florida. Following his graduation from USF, he enrolled at the University of Florida Levin College of Law to pursue his legal education.

In 2003, during the final semester of law school, Mickey was once again called to serve with the Army. His deployment to the Middle East for Operation Iraqi Freedom became another significant chapter in his life. The experience brought a renewed appreciation for the opportunities and responsibilities that came with his career and personal background.
